Mental Health
Introduction
The mental health programs include a range of activities, services and resources to assist general practice in managing patients who have a mental health issue.
Services include;
- phone advice
- liaison between the practice and other service providers
- case consultations for drug and substance use
- psychiatric assessment and review
Additionally Gps are able to refer patients by developing a mental health care plan (item 2710). This can be faxed to the Division on 82529433. Practices will then receive a confirmation fax. Referred patients will be triaged into the most appropriate program and an appointment will be made with the patient directly.
Gps will receive patient assessments and progress notes ensuring good collaborative care.
Northern Wellbeing
Northern Wellbeing provides therapeutic intervention for people aged fourteen and over who have difficulties with anxiety and/or depression. The service includes:
- Qualified mental health clinicians
- An initial 6 sessions with a further six sessions available if required after a review by the GP (Item 2712)
- Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
- Mental health clinicians liaise with the GP to ensure the service meets all the health needs of the client
- Sessions take an hour and cost $5 for health care card holders or $10 for non-health care card holders
Clients are also able to access up to 12 group sessions per year. Groups are run regularly on emotional wellbeing.
